| TACERE INTERVIEW
1) Well... as first question I would like to ask you if you know
what
"TACERE" means in italian... It means Silence in the sense
of... Don't talk
anymore... do you know that?
Yes. It’s a derivation from Latin, and the same word is also
in Italian. I think the direct translation would be an imperative
form “Keep silent”?
Silence is a very deep theme… And I like to use that theme.
Everyone knows the phrase “music begins from silence”,
and I believe that in a philosophical way everything begins out
of silence. So it’s a very deep theme.
2) What about your new single?! When the entire album will be
released?!
Our new single “I devour” is the first ever official
release from Tacere and it was released 31.5.2006. It has two tracks,
the first one being the title track called “I devour”
and the second one being a rare demo song “The black roses
have died” (not released anywhere else). Unfortunately the
single is (at the moment) only distributed in Finland. But it can
be ordered anywhere around the world from a couple of netstores
that have global shipping (with decent prices). You can check out
our website (www.tacere.net) for links where to order the CDS.
Just a while ago we decided together with our label that we’ll
postpone the release of our album. This was for many reasons. So
there is no exact release date for our full-length album (which
is called “Beautiful darkness” by the way), but it will
be released sometime in January 2007!
Since it’s a long time until January 2007 we also decided
that we’ll put out some other material before that. So we’re
releasing an EP called “A voice in the dark” in the
beginning of September 2006. The EP will include 4-6 songs, we haven’t
decided yet.
3) Are you satisfied by your new record company work?? Are they
a good label
or they are like many others that don't do nothing for the band?
SM-Records is a very good label. The owner of our record label is
one of the most respected music industry people in Finland and I
can see why. Our label has very good contacts and is very active
with us, so compared to the situation most of new metal bands face,
we’re in very good hands, so to speak. We’re very happy
about this situation.
4) The wonderful Helena... Is it a "problem" for you
to work with a
splendid woman like her in the band?! I mean... The distractions
could be a
lot or not?!
No. It’s great working with Helena. I have personally known
Helena for a long time, we know each other very well, and we’re
the closest of friends that you can imagine of. So there are really
no problems and I’m not distracted, even though, well she
is a very beautiful woman *wink*.
I think that the media and the general public are the ones that
will be distracted with Helena, not our band. I (and our whole band)
just hope that the distraction won’t be too big and the music
will still be the main focus with our band, and not our female singer.
That would just be shallow and plain stupid.
5) Any tour in the near future?!
We’re going to do little touring inside Finland during the
autumn and we’ve also been discussing with our new exploitation
manager (who is starting to our international promotion from now
on) about the possibility of doing some gigs and showcases abroad
also (Europe mainly). It’s impossible for us to do our own
tour in Europe yet, because we don’t have a large enough fanbase…
But we’re looking for an opportunity to tour as a warm up
act with some bigger band in the near future. We hope that this
will happen.
6) Talk about the metal scene in your country...
We have a very healthy and active metal scene in Finland, and it’s
growing up all the time along with the popularity of metal music.
Metal is very popular in Finland, and if I say that our top 10 album
chart is constantly filled with metal bands it gives you a picture
of just how popular metal is around here. There is a huge amount
of bands and a lot of gigs and events. Thanks to Lordi’s eurovision
victory metal is also starting to be politically correct and there’s
really not much disdain towards metal people.
7)tell me please your thought about the file sharing!
are you agree with the mp3 sharing in the net or no?!
A though question…
Well I have to say that I agree and don’t agree: In a way
the illegal sharing of mp3 songs does good for many small bands,
it’s kind of exogenous promotion for these smaller bands that
aren’t very known yet. And after all many file sharers do
eventually buy the albums of bands they like for support. But on
the other hand file sharing is piracy and piracy is stealing, and
I of course don’t approve stealing. And also many researches
show that file sharing is eventually taking money out of the musicians’
pockets!
It’s kind of a double barrelled shotgun issue. You just have
think about “where is the beef” in this case so to say…
And I don’t really have any solutions for this file sharing
problem (if you think it is a problem). But I do encourage bands
and labels to put out free legal mp3 songs in the net (for promotion)
to balance out the situation a bit and sort of use the existing
mp3 demand for positive things. The more easier it is to get legal
free mp3 songs, and buy “e-music” the less illegal file
sharing there will be.
And I also believe that at this moment of time there is a huge
amount of young people who are part of a “fall in between”
generation: A generation where attitude towards piracy is positive
and not seen as a bad thing, only as a normal thing. Especially
I think that young people who were born during eg. the 80s have
a limp integrity towards these issues because of the general attitude
that was surrounding piracy in computer user circles still just
a few years ago. But nowadays there has been a lot more attitude
upbringing for the youth about piracy, and so I do believe that
the youngest kids at this time are more aware of the fact that piracy
is a negative thing and also they know how to get music electronically
via net the legal way. And when they grow older and at the same
time new informed generations are born and getting legal music via
net is made easier, this might decrease the amount of illegal file
sharing and other piracy. But this is all just my subjective speculation…
And I really don’t want to put myself into a situation where
I would say that I’m either against or with illegal file sharing.
It so totally depends on the viewpoint. I just try to be as objective
as possible and let other people do the battle.
And my answer to this question was way too long *laughs*
9) What do you think about Lordi’s victory in the Eurovision
2006? Tacere
will be the next winner?
Lordi is really not one of my favourite bands, but I still appreciate
the work they’ve done very much, and the Eurovision victory
(which was a big surprise in Finland) was a great thing. As I said,
before, Lordi’s victory has made the whole Finnish nation
more open to metal music, and no one really blaims metal fans anymore
of being Satanists or anything as ridiculous as that. People in
Finland are starting to think of metal music as our national treasure.
And on the other hand Lordi’s victory has opened many doors
for all Finnish metal music internationally and also helped the
European metal scene in general to become more respected among the
mainstream people. Also I think that a metal band winning the eurovision
contest was a great slap on the face of the old institution of eurovision
song contest and a beginning of something new and better. In the
past years all the acts in eurovision have almost always been the
same style from year to year. Maybe Lordi’s victory will shake
up things a little bit.
As for Tacere… We haven’t really thought about entering
the song contest. But now when you think about it: why not? *laughs*
We’ll have to see, maybe we’ll try it some time in the
future.
10)Another One question Why a single from Eras Reveries?
The single “I devour” is actually not taken out of
“Eras – Reveries” but out of our forthcoming album
“Beautiful darkness”. All the songs that were on the
“Eras – Reveries” demo are also on the album,
but the versions are very different from the old ones (re-arranged,
re-recorded, re-mixed etc.). And so this new version of “I
devour” is also different from the earlier version. So it’s
a track out of the new album “Beautiful darkness”.
Reveries
11) Eventually how the new Album is different from your first
records Emotion Muerte?
Well the new album and “Emoción muerte” are
like night and day so to speak. The song material is a lot more
mature. The arrangements make a lot more sense, and the music in
whole is a lot more chorus based. Then all the vocal performances
in the new stuff are a million times better compared to “Emoción
muerte”. Also all the instrument performances are a lightyear
away from the old material., And so is all of the production work,
mixing etc.
I wouldn’t even start comparing “Beautiful darkness”
to “Emoción muerte” so much because it’s
so different in some ways. A lot better I think.
12) have you an imminent programs concerts etc.etc.?
No. We’re working on these things to get our show really
on the road. But there are no imminent plans at the moment.
13) Ok... we are at the end of this interview... Send a special
